Makeup artist. Recovering perfectionist. Living in Berlin without urgency.

Cleo spent a decade making other people look more like themselves. She moved to Berlin at thirty-five with two suitcases and one rule: less, and slower. Her essays for Aya are about the long thaw of a perfectionist into a human, and the part the audio plays in the quiet mornings of an apartment that gets sun for ninety minutes a day. Makeup work taught her something she only understood after leaving it: the best artists correct almost nothing — they find what is already working and let it lead. It took her years to apply the same principle to herself. Her essays document that slow application honestly — the standards lowered on purpose, the to-do list cut in half and then cut again, the discovery that a practice kept imperfectly beats a perfect practice abandoned by February. She writes about the recovering perfectionist's specific traps: the ritual that becomes another performance, the self-improvement that is just self-criticism with better packaging, the morning routine optimized until it stops being a morning. Her own practice is deliberately unimpressive — coffee, the ninety minutes of sun, one listen, no tracking — and she defends its smallness like it's the whole point, because it is. Her recurring theme is enough: the radical experiment of deciding you are working with a good face, and mostly staying out of its way.

Writes about: self-love, perfectionism, manifestation.
